The recent dogfighting accusations just got me to reflecting on Michael Vick the QB and I challenge you, the NFL Smackdown members, to name a QB more overrated than Michael Vick. In my time watching football, I can't name one. Pat Haden is the closest I can get. I just thought this would be the best forum to bring this up.

Vick and Brady basically had the same total yards last season. Vick had a better TD/turnover ratio though. Brady had a great team, Vick had a sub-par to mediocre team. Vick does more to less. Under Gibbs O-line system, it was required that all the O-linemen be under 300 pounds. It woks for the running game, but the QB gets mauled in the passing game. And people wonder why Vick had to run so much. The last time Vick seen a pocket, it was on a pair of Levi's.

I need to get this straight, because I'm not quite getting the oxygen I need right now. Gibbs, as in Alex Gibbs, right? The same Alex Gibbs that produced back to back Super Bowl champions in Denver with John Elway and in the process made it possible that Terrell Davis's abbreviated career might actually be considered for the Hall of Fame is the reason Michael Vick can't throw an accurate pass, make a smart decision on the field, make a smart decision off the field, or, I don't know, learn an offense? Please. You do realize that you chose this joker over that "bum" LaDanian Tomlinson, right? What do you suppose LaDanian Tomlinson might have been able to accomplish with the same blocking schemes as Terrell Davis? So again, I challenge NFL Smackdown. Can you find a more overrated QB than Michael Vick?

Vick's receivers would look like Pro Bowlers with Brady throwing to them. It's no mistake Peerless Price's career went to shit because he had to step down from a washed up Bledsoe to the likes of Vick. It's funny how every other WR that has gone there since Vick has taken the reighns suddenly sucks.

Tony Romo pretty overrated. The guy put up good stats his first few games and was absolutely awful his last few and the media still loves him. Hell, after a few games, he got all the spotlight.
I just don't think he's that good. Decent QB in the NFL, but what people make him out to be? Nah, I don't see it.

Wrong answer. Nobody has been hanging on this guy's dick like they have been hanging on Vick's dick for what is probably five years now, right? No, this guy has been billed as a league superstar ever since he was drafted before L.T. and the only thing he has accomplished was to not fuck up a game where Brett Favre was more than happy to lose himself. Vick has yet to be one of the top ten or fifteen QBs in the league and he never will be. He will be returning kicks next year if he wants to keep a job.

If you weigh it against the hype, Vick could easily be considered a bust! Didn't the Chargers also get Drew Brees in the second round of the same draft?

How many playoff victories does Vick have under his belt. SB appearances? About as over-rated as they get. He hasn't accomplished anything but some highlight reel runs. And highlight reel hits he's taken on the run.

Yes, I believe you are right. What an awful draft by the Chargers missing out on Michael Vick, eh? So, yeah, the Falcons made like bandits selecting Vick over Tomlinson and Brees. This is fucking laughable. I just have to get this in. TONY ROMO IS IN THIS CONVERSATION???? The fact that he has completed a pass in the NFL is a surprise to most of us outside of Dallas, Texas. You want to call him Michael Vick overrated? He is nowhere NEAR as overrated as Ron Mexico. Next. I'll accept Bob Griese and Roger Staubach arguements.

He's 2-2 in the playoffs. Both losses against the Eagles. Took a 9-6-1 team into GB and beat them at Lambeau. Had the Falcons one game away from the SB and he is still only 26. How many playoffs games has LT won? Vick has won more playoff games than LT & Brees combined.

I doubt it. Brady was complaining about his WRs last year and they were far more talented then Atlanta WRs. I watched every game and these WRs dropped at least 6 TD passes. Vick would thread the needle and hit them right in stride, they would drop it. It probably had a lot to do with coaching. Our old WR coach was an ex o-lineman and we never practiced the scramble drill which is absurd, seeing we have a scrambling QB. Vick wasn't even allowed to audible. Teams use to bullrush Matt Lehr and have the pocket collaspe from the inside. He couldn't step up in the pocket and couldn't count on his WRs. When he actually got time, he lit up the D.BTW, Peerless Price was never good. He had one good year and the rest were average at best. Even when reunited with Bledsoe at Dallas, he couldn't even crack the starting line up. It's pretty sad that Vick's most reliable WR is Brian Finneran, a Wr who was cut from Philly for the likes of James Thrash and Freddie Mitchell.

What has LT done in the post season? Nothing. And plus, Denver actually cheated the salary cap during those years.

LT is a RB and RB's aren't judges by those kinds of standards. LT wasn't supposed to be the best player coming out that year, it was Vick. LT just turned out to be the best player. Brees, wells hes 1-1 in the playoffs in his first year in New Orleans and a Pro Bowler. In San Diego that shoulder injury did him in. Vick was supposed to revolutionalize the QB position. On some perosnal level he has but overall nothing has changed. Teams aren't trying to find the next Mike Vick now are they. They see him for what he is. A sometime throwing RB. Don't give me Vince Young either, yeah he can run but he's already a better passer than Vick.

Mark Rypien was way more overrated. The only reason he looked good and the 'Skins won a SB was because he had 3 WRs who could catch anything w/i a 5 foot radius.

Why is nobody mentioning Eli Manning? For all the hype over him and the attention his games get, he's been pretty mediocre to bad most of his career.
I dunno on Vick ... I don't think he's as good as all the hype, but I do think he's a weapon on offense and with the right coaching I think he could still develop into a good QB. I think Mora trying to bring the West Coast offense to Atlanta was a big mistake. Not that I think the new guy is going to be any better -- not a lot of faith in Petrino on my end. Biggest mistake Atlanta ever made was firing Reeves.

Rypien, Manning, Couch???? No. Rypien won a Super Bowl despite being an ugly immobile non-superstar. Tim Couch? He played in Cleveland and he never was showered with praise for his physical gifts. Eli Manning? Okay, if he manages to be considered a league star for two or three more years despite sucking ass, he can possibly be considered here. Still, nobody is as overrated as that fucking bust Michael Vick.

So what you are saying is that you would pass up on the best RB in the league and a damn good QB in exchange for a guy who has only managed to accomplish beating an overrated Bubby Brister in a game that said Brister didn't even seem to care that he won?

RBs come and go. I'll pick a QB over a RB anyday. And I'll definately take Vick over Brees. Right now, Brees is the better QB, but Vick is the better playmaker. If Vick had the weapons Brees had on offense, he would have been an MVP candidate too.

Petrino is far better than Mora. First, he is actually trying to give Vick an O-line for the first time in his career. Petrino's is an offensive mastermind and can turn Vick to the ultimate weapon. Reeves had the best offense for Vick, but firing him was the right move. He made a lot of bad draft choices and his playcalling was getitng old and predictable. I would have loved to keep Reeves as a HC, but definately not GM. Petrino's offense uses 4 WRs, something similar to Reeves. Vick should excel and should actual have a pocket to throw from.

Nope, I started this thread and I will be the one to say that Eli does not stack up to the pile of overrated crap that Vick is. Anybody who knew anything about football knew that at best poopy-face was only going to be half the QB his brother was. PEOPLE STILL CONSIDER VICK A SUPERSTAR IN THIS LEAGUE!!!!???? He can barely complete fifty percent of his passes. He can't win games anymore and people are obsessed with this fucker. Can I reiterate the fact that Kyle Boller has a winning record as a QB and his QB rating has gone up every year since he has been in the league, yet he is considered a bust and this stupid bum is supposedly a superstar???
STILL, THE MOST OVERRATED QB. Eli, you will never be as overrated as Michael Vick.

Who considers Vick to be a superstar? Everyone I've talked to/listened to has said the same thing: Vick needs to work on his game a lot before becoming a superstar.
He's overhyped but no one is proclaiming him to be a great QB.
