View Full Version : I'm sure Jerry is shaking in his boots

The New York Times reports that some rebellious rich dudes plan to put together a pro football league that would supposedly challenge the NFL.

Guess who is on board as the first (and only, at this point) owner? Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

The plan: Put teams in eight NFL-sized cities that don't have teams. Cuban reportedly is considering Las Vegas.

The potential for this league to be a massive failure -- just like the USFL, XFL and every other upstart that tried to get a piece of the pro football pie -- is extremely high. I'm sure Cuban, who loves fighting The Man, considers it a chance to prove his genius.

It's also a chance to stick it to his sworn enemy, Donald Trump, who was the USFL's big-name owner. His New Jersey Generals were also-rans in the afterthought league despite having Heisman Trophy winners Herschel Walker and Doug Flutie. Not sure what Trump's cut was of the $3 settlement the USFL was awarded in its antitrust suit against the big, bad NFL.

UPDATE: The league's plan is to play on Friday nights, the sacred time reserved for high school football. I reckon that's a severe enough violation to give Cuban the boot from our fine state/

And this is suppose to shake up Jerry how? I say let them have the nights
the NFL games aren't on..it might kill off some of the more useless shows
such as American Idol, Survivor, Big Brother and the totally worthless TV
stations that put those crappy shows on the air

It doesn't mention Jerry at all genious. This will fail pathetically like all attempts before it to start a new league. The NFL is the greatest sport in the US and that will not change, people will ignore this shit.

Apparently this is another lame duck attempt by Cuban to crawl under
JJ's skin and make him flinch..for possible not selling him the Cowboys
when Cuban made him a offer to buy the team. either way this league
I doubt even gets off the ground and if it does..Then I can't see it on
for very long, most of your reality TV shows today are better eye candy for the avid television watcher
