Updated: 01.20.2008- In Progress; Picks 1-10
With Senior Bowl practices underway beginning this week, draft boards are really going to heat up, and players are going to rise and fall through out. Also, with so many new coaches in place, particulary in St. Louis, players that might had been targets last week, are no longer priorities.
List of underclassmen here
Don't forget that we will have several prospects on our NFL draft shows and so click here for further details.
1. Detroit- Andre Smith, OT, AL
Jake Long in 2008 and now Smith in 2009. Scouts and GMs know that OTs are hugh cornerstones of the team and Smith will likely be the top pick here.
2. St. Louis- Brian Orakpo, DE, TX
With new HC Steve Spagnola in place, defense will be the #1 issue addressed, and what better player that Orakpo? He can play DE or OLB.
3. Kansas City- Michael Oher, OT, Miss
Move Brandon Albert back to OG and move Oher to LT and this unit will be in great shape for years to come. Tyler Thigpen looks like the real deal.
4. Seattle- Mark Sanchez, QB, USC
Hawks need a young signal caller and most observers feel that Sanchez came out at the right time. Still, with players like Michael Crabtree on the board, nobody really knows for sure what this franchise is going to do. Sanchez looks like the safe pick.
5. Cleveland- Aaron Curry, LB, WF
Willie McGinest retired, so that left a huge hole at OLB and Curry is considered the best one in this draft. Also, look for the Browns to trade down and possibly draft an ILB later on. This team is in need of multiple picks. Ohio State CB, Malcolm Jenkins is a real possiblity, especially with all the solid WRs in the AFCN.
6. Cincinnat- Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
Bengals need to address the defense and OL, however, with the skill level of Smith, who many consider one of the top 3 OTs, he's their selection.
7. Oakland- Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
This team needs playmakers and Crabtree is considered the top WR in this class. JaMarcus Russell needs more playmakers around him and Crabtree gives the team the threat that they've lacked for a long time.
8. Jacksonville- Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State
Many might question this pick, however, we love Wells to team with Maurice Jones-Drew, and give the Jags a great 1-2 combo, which will allow them to return to their 2007 form and pound teams. Injury questions with Wells, though, could force him down a bit.
9. Green Bay- Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
When a team is picking this high, they can draft one of the top runners in the draft in Moreno. Imagine having both Ryan Grant and Moreno on this team? Michael Jenkins could be a real possibility here, too, but we like Moreno for the Pack.
10. San Francisco- Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
Maclin excels at returning kicks and he's got some of the best hands. He also fills a big need for the 49ers and gives them one of the best WRs in the draft. Matthew Stafford is probably the thinking here, but let's just wait and see what happens. If there was a team that could use a young signal caller, 49ers would be the first team to draft Stafford.
In progress
Players on the rise:
Jamon Meredith, OT, SC - Value of OTs is so high that teams will trade back into RD 1 to grab one.
Victor "Macho" Harris, DB, VT - Great man-to-man coverage skills and also returns kicks.
Darius Butler, DB, UConn - Excels in pass coverage and is an excellent athlete.
Duke Robinson, OG, - Great run blocker and would be a late or early RD 2.
Chase Coffman, TE, MO - May have the best hands in the draft and might be too good to pass on in RD 1.
LeSean McCoy, RB, Pitt - Well built, deceptive speed, and good receiver out of the backfield.
